Since I've joined the 5 Club, I've learned a few things that help get my day going and ensure awesomeness! I thought I would share them with you because, even if you don't getup at 5, you can still do these things to help create an awesome day!
1. Set your alarm! Novel idea, right? But, really, set your alarm. Set it and forget it. Same time, every day. Even if you think you don't really need to get up then. I've learned that it's just as hard to get up at 7 as it is at 5. I'd rather just get up and get going no matter what day it is. My alarm is set to go off at 4:59 am. Every. Day. This has changed my mindset. Instead of setting my alarm based on when I'm getting in bed, I'm getting in bed based on my alarm going off the next morning.
2. Shed some light. Open your blinds or turn on a bunch of lights. If it's light in your house, it helps wake you up. There's nothing worse than trying to start your day while it's still dark out. Your mind is telling you, "Are you kidding me? It's night time! Go back to bed!" The lighter and brighter it is, the easier it is for my mind to believe it is time to get to work!
3. Drink a full glass of cold water. This is such an easy step. I do it while I'm waiting for my coffee to brew. Drinking cold water can help give your metabolism a little boost because your body has to work to heat the water {source}. Plus, you haven't had any fluids for the last 7 hours or so, so you're probably dehydrated.
4. Read your bible & pray. I spend 30 minutes reading and praying. This gets me focused on the right thing instead of all of the little things that can take me out. It really does put things into perspective and helps me remember who I am and why I am here. Better done first thing than at the end of the day! If you don't read the Bible, then maybe try reading something that can help put your day and life into perspective. Or, just give the Bible a try! I recommend the One Year Bible. Only takes 15 minutes per day.
5. Do one productive thing before you go online. Since I am focusing on my writing at this time, I spend 30 minutes writing before I do anything online. No email, no Facebook, nothing. What is one thing that you can check off of your list before you get sucked into the black hole of the internet? Do it!
I hope these things help you in some way. They really aren't hard and honestly have given me some awesome days!
