Do you constantly find yourself feeling overwhelmed? It's so easy for me to get overwhelmed. Yes, me, the simplicity and planner girl. But it still happens. This life is non stop and very full. Full of fun, commitments, joy, and pain. And I know who holds it all. And I pray. And I hand it over to Him. But all too often, the overwhelm sneaks in. So when it does, these are the 5 things I do to let go of it:
1. Stop. Breathe. Pray.
When I start to feel that panic set in, I stop what I'm doing, close my eyes, take a deep breath, and pray. I hand it all over to God because everything I'm doing needs to be for Him and through Him.
2. Brain Dump
I make a list of all the things I need to do. Getting it all out of your head helps to keep things in perspective. When we keep it all in our mind, we often think there's a lot more to do and then we end up wasting time worried about our big list that really isn't that big. I keep this going throughout each day in my planner and it's a great way for me to see what needs to be done and cross things off the list.
3. Make a plan
This might seem obvious, but when you actually sit down and put your tasks in a planner or calendar, you are more likely to get them done. Whether it's a goal, a project, or a new business idea, write it down, set a due date, and make it happen.
4. Set aside time for yourself
Make sure you're taking time each day to read, meditate, take a bath, take a walk...whatever it might be that is for YOU and doesn't require a ton of brain power. When you take this time to rest and rejuvenate, you'll have more energy when you return to the work that needs to be done.
5. Create a clean slate
And I don't just mean in your calendar. I mean in your home. Physical clutter = Mental Clutter. Spend 15 minutes clearing the clutter that's around you so that your mind can have some peace.
