Heavy. Burdened. Do you feel it too? I don't know how else to describe how I've been feeling lately. Children being beheaded, women being raped and murdered, men being martyred for their faith. Ferguson. Robin Williams. 27 MILLION HUMAN SLAVES in the world right now, as I type this.
And I'm sitting here in my living room, on my comfy sofa, with a MacBook on my lap. My iPhone is by my side which has been blowing up since 2 a.m. because there's a new healthy baby in the family that was delivered in a clean, warm, safe hospital. I have a hot cup of coffee that was made with freshly ground beans and all I had to do was push a freakin button. And I added cold half & half that I got out of my refrigerator because I like cream in my coffee. Oh, and I have about four bibles to choose from for my daily reading. Four. While people are being murdered for smuggling them into their country.
The earth is groaning and trembling. Droughts, hurricanes, earthquakes, tsunamis.
I think we can all agree that there is a prevailing feeling of heaviness. It aches in the depths of our hearts. It paralyzes us because we just. don't. know. what. to. do.
So we go back to our phones. Check our instagram. See what's going on with our world via Facebook. But you can't escape there because everyone who has an opinion, which is EVERYONE, is giving their two-cents on what's truth and what's lies and spreading more hate and fueling the fires that are raging in our mind. And now you've got mine too. I'm adding my two-cents to the cesspool of voices.
But I don't want to just give you another opinion. I could. And some of you would agree with me and some of you would not. But, really. Is there any point to another opinion?
I want to tell you what I know. I know that we are here for a reason. And when we feel like there's NOTHING we can do when these situations seem so distant, there really is SOMETHING we can do. There are, indeed, countless things we can do. And the only way to start is to do the next right thing. Love can spread like a wild fire just the same as evil can. And if we start in our homes and with our communities, we can spread love which will eventually keep spreading beyond what we could humanly reach.
When we are kind to one another. Speaking to each other in love. Having conversations with people we meet and genuinely caring about the well being of someone other than ourselves. Showing people, even the least in our eyes, that Jesus is the only hope we really have; not a new government, or law. THIS is love. THIS is the good news. And it's all that we have.
Don't close your eyes or look away. Although it's gruesome and painful to the core, it's our reality. And when we think it's the duty of someone else to worry about the wars that rage, we can at least intercede.
For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.
2 Corinthians 10:3-5
Can we please stop arguing our opinions? Because, unless you were married to Robin Williams, you just got back from Iraq, or you were on the street where that poor boy was killed, that's just what they are. OPINIONS. Instead of arguing our days away, let's be people that do something. Be the change in your own home and community before it's too late.
Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter. - Martin Luther King Jr.
Use your voice for good. For change. Not to force your ideas and opinions on people that are hurting. Speak life. Speak love. Have a conversation that might be scary at first but will bring more fruit than talking about the latest style or gossiping about our "friends."
We may very well be the generation to usher in the King! Are we worthy? Are we behaving the way an usher of Christ should behave? I WANT to say, "Yes!" I WANT to answer that call. I WANT to be a living breathing example of Christ's love to everyone I meet. From the most important to the least. Because every single one of us EQUALLY important in our Father's eyes.
