I recently watched a video of a panel done at the Colour Conference in 2012 and it included an older woman who was very active in the church. Just a year before, she had lost her husband. And, before that, she had to make tremendous sacrifices to be his care taker. She had every excuse to not stay involved in the church. To say her “ministry” days were over. But, she didn’t. She stayed committed to God and his purpose. I was truly inspired. I can honestly say, I haven’t met many older women who are active in the church.
The seasons of life change often and, sometimes, without notice. There are the obvious changes like childhood, adulthood, parenthood, and grandparenthood. And then there are subtle changes in between. Whatever season you find yourself in, let it be covered by grace.
Don’t become a victim of your seasons. I think that the word “season” is extremely overused in the church today.
“God’s called me to a season of rest.”
Or, “It’s just a season.”
Always waiting for the next season thinking that’s when God will use us.
We hear it all the time. And, for the most part, it’s true. We do go through seasons. The season I’m in right now is completely different than it was 10 years ago, when I was changing diapers and making bottles. And, it’s completely different than the season I’ll be in in 10 years, when my youngest is 18.
But no matter the season you’re in, God has still called you to something and He his grace is sufficient for whatever that may be. We have still been given the great commission. We need to realize the truth in changing seasons and be willing to live on purpose in that season. When we are aware of the season we're in, we can be on the look out as to how the enemy could use it against us.
Can we be a generation that doesn’t go from season to season making every excuse in the book to avoid the reason we’re actually living and breathing? Can we be a generation that stays the path, no matter the cost? That ushers in the next generation with strength and hope? That continues to lead, even when we’re 80 years old, so that the next generation doesn’t know any different? Can you imagine what this world would be like, to be filled with leaders of all ages, all walks of life, all over the world?
What season are you in and how can you still live on purpose in that season?
