I've always been a dreamer. A collector of thoughts and visions and hopes and goals. Vision boards haven't always been a part of my goal setting (and reaching) routine but I'm so grateful I was encouraged to make one this year.
I have made them in the past but not consistently every year. And I also keep a dream journal which is like a vision board but it builds on itself as your dreams grow. If you have dreams and goals, you need a vision board. Plain and simple.
As you've probably heard before, what you think about, you bring about. And while this may sound a little woo-woo, it's true. The things we focus on grow and our unconscious mind doesn't know what's real and what is not. So a vision board is just an added tool to help you REALLY think on, visualize, and feel the goals you're wanting to reach.
You see... Our thoughts create our feelings and our feelings create our actions and our actions create our results. When we can create a visual tool to look at every day and think about our dreams and goals... If we REALLY visualize them and FEEL them as if they were already achieved, we are much more likely to achieve them. If we simply just write down our goal or even tuck it away in the back of our mind, they will just remain a "maybe someday." But when we start to attach visualization and feelings to those dreams and goals, we really start to embrace where we're headed.
When you're creating a vision board it needs to be your biggest dreams. And if they don't feel big and scary, they're probably not big enough. The more dreams and goals you have, the more you'll reach. For instance, if you have 100 dreams and goals, you might not reach all of them but you'll certainly reach more than the person who has only 10. So dream away, baby!
Here's how I created a vision board that will truly help you dream bigger AND actually reach those goals. Plus, I've added a video walking you through my process below.
Every morning, I go through my mindset routine using my 90 Days of Purpose Journal (you can read my post about the details here). Then, I spend about 5-10 minutes looking at my vision board and actually envisioning myself as if these things are already happening. I picture myself on our dream vacation, the sights, the sounds, the feelings. I picture myself driving my dream car. What it will feel like to be sitting in the drivers seat and actually driving. It sounds weird but it works!
This year, I invested in a nice pin board and pretty push pins and I'm so glad I did! I'm a firm believer in investing in your dreams and goals and this is part of it. When we treat our dreams and goals with respect and authority, we are more likely to achieve them!
