On Doing Those Things You Hate To Do

rehearsing your troubles

There are some things that I just torture myself over. Stupid. I know. But you know how you have those things that you hate to do and put off until the last possible moment or until life just smacks you in the face with it and you have no choice but to face that monster? We all have them. Mine is so lame too. Confrontation. Customer service. Phone calls. Emails. YUCK.

I would be forever satisfied if I never had to return a phone call or email again and if I could pay someone else to deal with the customer service side of my job. I hate it. I LOATHE it. I think about it day and night. I put off checking my voice mail and my email in fear of someone being disappointed in me.

I know! So lame!

But today I had an epiphany of sorts. More like a you are so lame! Why do you do this to yourself? moment. I was reading Jesus Calling {my morning ritual} and it said this:

Rehearsing your troubles results in experiencing them many times, whereas you are meant to go through them only when they...

My Word For 2015 & A Link-up

Uncategorized Jan 13, 2015

Flourish one word 2015

Well, here it is. On this thirteenth day of the year, I'm finally giving you my "word." This has become a fun little tradition for me and looking back over the last few years it's turned out to be quite prophetic. I don't really like to rush into setting my goals and choosing my word for one reason. I want God to be a part of it.

In 2013 my word was Expectant. Because I was expecting God to move in my life and I was expecting nothing less than extraordinary. That's exactly what He did. He moved in me and through me. I started writing and dreaming like never before.

In 2014 my word was Increase. Wow! If you know ANYTHING about me or what my 2014 looked like, you know that there was increase. Increase in my capacity, increase in my dreams, increase in my business... you name it.

Needless to say after such an amazing year, I was a little nervous to even think about what 2015 could bring. I feel like I'm just settling in to this new season. I'm still learning and growing and thriving....

Introducing the Purposeful Planner 2015

business home life simplicity Nov 17, 2014

After years of dreaming and months of planning and designing, the Purposeful Planner is finally available!! for pre-order! **UPDATE** They're in stock!

I think my nerves have been put through the wringer this year. Between the book and now this I wonder if it's bravery or just plain crazy. It's probably a little of both.

For years, I've been on the search for the perfect planner. I have found many that come close but none have had everything I've wanted. I wanted a place to be encouraged and inspired, reminded to live on purpose, and keep my life and family organized. I wanted a place to budget and menu plan, to be reminded to take care of myself, and to keep up with those little things that I always forget to do.

I am happy to say that the Purposeful Planner includes all of those things. But more importantly it's covered in grace. It's not a system. It can be as much or as little as you want it to be. If I can help you do anything it would be to help you find your purpose and...

It's been a year...

faith life Nov 10, 2014

One year ago {this past weekend} our family made one of the hardest best decisions of our lives. We've made many hard decisions but this one hurt the worst. We knew it would. We prayed it wouldn't but deep down inside, we knew it would hurt. We didn't expect the hurt to last so long. And honestly, a lot of times, it still hurts.

When the easier thing to do would have been to stay, we left. We chose to be faithful to God instead of man. We chose to do what would be eternally better for us than what would be surely comfortable for a little while. We chose loyalty to God above loyalty to man.

We lost friends. Looking back I guess they weren't really true friends. And that's ok. Better to know that early on then after a ten year investment. But it didn't make it hurt any less.

We lost community. Or what we thought was community. But again, looking back, it wasn't community at all. Because now I know what community is. Now I know what God's idea of Church {with a big C} is and what man...

Purposeful Planner

Lately... I've been SO. BUSY. But good, busy so that's ok, right? I completely failed at the 31 day challenge. Boo! But I do have several posts that I am planning on adding to the challenge so be sure to check back often or sign up to get blog posts delivered to your inbox.

So. The reason I've been so busy. I've been designing a day planner for 2015 called the Purposeful Planner. Yay! This has been a dream of mine for quite some time and it just seemed fitting with the release of The Simplicity Project to just go for it. Now or never, right? And can I say, I'm pretty darn proud of myself!? I completely taught myself to use the programs that required creating a planner. I had no clue what I was doing but I was determined to get it done.

This planner, you guys. It is amazing! It has a monthly spread, budget sheet, menu plan sheet, and master task sheet all at the beginning of each month. Then each day has an inspirational quote or verse, a place to track your water intake, a health...

20 Simple Ways To Improve Your Health

health life simplicity Oct 20, 2014

Several years ago I had sort of a "health awakening" and have been on that journey ever since. I wouldn't call myself a health nut by any means but I do try to make conscious decisions regarding the health of myself and my family. Before, I would just eat whatever and whenever not knowing that most of the food in our grocery stores were made up of harmful ingredients.

As you all know by now, I like to keep things as uncomplicated as possible.  Here are 20 simple ways to improve your health in this fast paced world we're living in. Most of these things we already know but over time we've gotten less enthusiastic and often forget to even think about them.

*Disclaimer* I am NOT a medical professional. If you need medical advice please seek a medical professional. I'm just a real human, who is also a real mom, in a real world trying to do what's best for my family.

1. Start your day right.

I'm a huge fan of getting off on the right foot. For me this means getting up well before my...

Simple Faith

faith life simplicity Oct 19, 2014

Simple faith. How can something seem so complicated yet actually be one of the simplest things we ever do in this life? And when we have that simple faith, it makes everything else fall into it's divine place just as it is meant to be.

Faith: confidence or trust in a person or thing

If I really believe what the Bible says, and I really believe that God works all things together for good, then all I really need is a little faith.

"Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you." Matthew 17:20

Then why is it so hard sometimes? Why do we get caught up in religion and works and he said she said? None of that even matters. When we have faith that God is who he says he is and that Jesus came to pay for us all, we have everything we need. Whether we're rich or poor, educated or not, mother or barren, father or son, black or white, Jesus is the only...

Simplify Your Schedule

life simplicity Oct 17, 2014

One very important section of my book is on the subject of time. We have got to be the busiest generation to walk this planet. It's quite maddening most of the time. We're running around like there's no tomorrow, biting off more than we can chew, signing our kids up for every sport and club under the sun. You know the drill.

And while most of the things we're doing aren't necessarily bad, they aren't necessarily for our own good either. The best way you can simplify your schedule is by taking a good look at how you're spending your time. When you really look at how you're spending each and every hour, you may find that you're actually wasting a lot of time. Time that you could spend doing things that are of more importance.

How many times do you catch yourself being sucked into your phone only to realize it's been an hour? An hour! Do you know what you can do in an hour? Read a book, write a letter, visit a friend, take a long bath, write a blog post...all those things we say we...

Simple Steps: One Step At a Time

faith life Oct 14, 2014

Take the first step in faith

It's been a little over a year since I wrote my first post on this here blog. Hard to believe how far I've come and at the same time, how far I have yet to go. But I wouldn't be here if I hadn't taken millions of simple steps. One simple step at a time. My very first post was on taking the first step and it's lead to endless possibilities, frustrations, joy, and pain.

I think of how different my life would look had I not taken the simple first step of publishing that first post. I was scared out of my mind. Thinking to myself, who do you think you are? A writer? Ha! That first step, as terrifying as it was, gave me strength. It gave me courage. With every post I became a little more brave. With every post, I became a little more seasoned.

And so it will be for the rest of my life. I will take one step towards what it is I feel God is telling me to do. The steps may not always pan out or lead me down the road I want. But at least I'll be moving forward. Even if it's just an...
