Fear Hates 5 AM

business life Jul 15, 2013

Today is the official first day of the Start Experiment. I am thrilled for so many reasons to be a part of this adventure. I have already seen so much fruit from the community that has been created and in my own life. Huge shout out to Jon Acuff for  his vision and dreams and spreading that fire to others.

That's really what it's all about. We can't keep the dreams and successes to ourselves. All things breed. Dreams breed dreams, success breeds success and so on. In the same way, fear breeds fear, laziness breeds laziness, you know the how the story goes.

I shared with you before that I punched fear in the face and my goal is to complete 3 chapters in my book. This is still the case. But, as I've started to work out this dream and this vision, I've made new goals. I've also realized new things that fear hates.

One of them is 5 am.

Fear HATES 5 am! You know why? Because there's not much that can distract you at 5 am. The kids aren't up yet {and I'm really sorry if they are, I...

The Start Experiment

business life Jul 10, 2013

The day I started this blog, I received my daily email from Jon Acuff’s blog. In it was a post that would only be up for 24 hours.  Here's what it said:

start experiment

I had just punched fear in the face that morning so I didn’t hesitate a single second. I replied with my info and prayed to God that I would be picked. Haha!

Such a nerd, I am. I was secretly {freakishly} hoping this would be a 24 day adventure in the mountains full of leadership training and book writing tips. Tons of one on one time with my buddy, Jon, and 22 other amazing, fear face punching, people.

I was chosen!!

It wasn’t at all what I was imagining. I have been known to day dream a time or two hundred. But, I did get in on the adventure and it’s more than I could have asked for! There are, in fact, 2600 people that are “in” on this adventure called the Start Experiment.

The group was formed based on the fact that fear hates community. And it is so true! I’ve read countless blogs...

Growing Into Our Dreams

life Jul 08, 2013

Remember when you were a child, and it felt like growing up took forever? My daughter was just given her first pair of pointe shoes by her ballet instructor. She's been taking ballet since she was 4 and her goal since then has been pointe. When she came home from ballet last week and told me the news, she was beaming! I don't think I've seen her that happy since we won our trip to Australia!

She looked at me with an extra sparkle in her eyes and said, "I've waited seven years for this!"

Wow! That's more than half of her little life that she's been waiting for something. To start dancing in pointe shoes, your feet are supposed to be full grown {or at least pretty close}. This doesn't happen until you're about 11 or 12. Even though she is an amazing dancer, and the rest of her body was ready for pointe, her feet weren't ready. If she started too early, she could permanently damage her feet.

And so it is with life. Sometimes we have a dream for our life, and we know it will come to...

Happy Sad Happy

life Jul 01, 2013

I wasn't planning on posting today, but I just need to get this out there. Plus, I know I'll have much to say after this week and this will be a little preface to that.

I should actually be finishing laundry and packing right now. We are leaving this afternoon {hopefully} to head up to Northern California. We moved to Southern California a little over 2 years ago so we make this trip a few times a year.  My kids especially love going up during the summer because my parents house is summer heaven for them.  There's a pool with huge rocks to jump off of and an outdoor kitchen with a pool table and flat screen t.v.  Why would they ever want to leave?

For this, I am happy.  We will spend time with family that we see far less than we should. Eat junk food that will make me cringe when I try to button my jeans. Get sun burned in the 110 degree temps. Listen to great music. Dance late into the night.

Happy. Happy.

We will also be spending our last 4th of July at my...

One Thing I Know We Have In Common

life Jun 27, 2013

I know, for a fact, that you and I have something in common.

People are often asked whether they are a leader or a follower. It's really a stupid question {I know, I know. There are no stupid questions}. In some way, shape, or form, we are all leaders. People are watching us wherever we go, whether we like it or not.  Therefore, we are both leaders whether we like it or not!

We lead by our actions which means…

We lead in our homes.
We lead in our work.
We lead in our school.
We lead in our errands.
We lead in our social media.
We lead in our lacking.

If anyone is watching, we are leading.

If we're all leaders, are we leading in the right direction? If we really think about it and focus on doing our best, at whatever it is we’re doing, then we’ll be leading in the right direction. Or, at least a good one!

I’m not talking about being perfect. Oh, heck no! I’m talking about being real. Being honest. Being faithful. Being an imperfect human who serves a...

Take the First Step in Faith

life Jun 25, 2013

Well, here goes. I’m actually scared out of my mind. But, as Jon Acuff would say, I’m going to punch fear in the face! Why am I scared? Because this is the beginning of what could be something big. This is the beginning of me, publishing my writing.  And it scares me to death!

This isn’t my first time blogging so I know what you’re thinking… You’ve done this before, why are you scared?  I’m scared because, even though I’ve blogged, it hasn’t been real. Not that I’ve ever lied. I haven’t. I’ve always been 100% honest with my readers.  But my blog was on a passion that isn’t scary. It was just fun. It was couponing, and staying healthy. Saving money with out cashing in on all of the freebies that should actually be thrown in the trash or taken off the market for that matter.  I’ve been blogging on that for about 3 years and although it is one of my passions, it isn’t...
