Jesus Today: Devotions for Kids - Review

Jesus Today: Devotions for Kids

I was recently given the opportunity to review Jesus Today : Devotions for Kids by Sarah Young. Of course I jumped at the chance because I love Jesus Calling and Jesus Calling for Kids.

Jesus Today: Devotions for Kids

I had been wanting some sort of devotional for my 10 year old and this was just perfect! The simple layout and bright colors keep him engaged and he didn't even argue when I asked him to read it. He actually loved it and continues to read it every day without me asking. {YAY!}

What I love about this version of Jesus Calling is that the devotions are short and sweet and still filled with truth that will leave an impact. My 10 year old has a pretty short attention span so these are perfect for him. He gets a daily message of hope with scripture to back it up. I really couldn't be happier.

If you're looking for a devotional for your 6-10 year old, this is perfect!

One Word 2016: Discipline

faith life Feb 01, 2016

oneword discipline

It's February 1st and I'm finally sitting down to write my one word and some dreams and goals for the year. And you know what, I'm totally okay with that. Sure, most of you did this a month ago, but not me. One month ago I was sitting on a white sand beach in Turks and Caicos without a care in the world. The thought crossed my mind several times but I really just wanted to enjoy my vacation to the fullest and not work. It was the first vacation I've taken in years without feeling like I "needed" to get something done. And wouldn't you know, the world kept spinning!

When we returned from our dream vacation (thanks to my parents and grandparents) it was time to jump back into life. School, laundry, cleaning, orders, designing, the list goes on. Then hubby and I celebrated our 19th anniversary with a little getaway to Laguna beach. Next thing you know, it's February!

So February is my January and I really am super excited about it. In fact, I think I might do this from now on. January...

How many days till summer?

kids beach

Where did the summer go? I mean. I'm a fan of getting back in to the school groove, having some routine, and pretending it's fall {because SoCal} but really? I want summer back already! I want to sleep in and watch T.V. with the kids, head to the beach whenever we feel like it, stay up way too late in the warm summer air.

Maybe I'm feeling an intense dose of summer-nostalgia because we had such an amazing one. In the midst of filling and shipping thousands of orders, we managed to have quite a bit of fun.

I don't want to bore you with all of the details but I must brag a little on all the fun we had.

We started our summer celebrating my amazing hubby's FORTIETH birthday. What?? I surprised him with a little getaway to the most fabulous little hotel in Manhattan Beach. If you're looking for a romantic seaside getaway, check out Shade. Also. If you want major points with the hubs, surprise him with a U2 concert. No words. Mine won't be good enough for that experience.

Fangirl Your Friends

Fangirl

#fangirlyourfriends

Fangirl : a girl or woman who is an extremely or overly enthusiastic fan of someone or something

We've all been there. We #fangirl over celebrities all the time. Especially "Christian Celebrities." Most of the time these poor women haven't even asked for this. They're just doing their thing and their space is growing and all of us mature little Christian girls get a little crazy.

Totally guilty. I get inspired by someone and find some sort of connection and get attached. Thanks to social media I get glimpses of their real life and it gives me an illusion that we have an actual relationship.

Why are we so weird?

This is something that's been weighing heavy on me lately. As my circle expands and people get to know me through my business and social media accounts, I want them to know that I'm just Corie. I'm just doing my thing the best I can and moving forward one step at a time. I’m a wife, a mom, a friend. Corie. I just happen to make planners ;)

I'm constantly trying...

#offthebeam! What do you need to let go of?

Quit trying to be awesome and instead be wise

In Jen Hatmaker's new book, For the Love, she has a chapter titled "Worst Beam Ever." In it she compares our attempts at finding balance in our lives to a gymnast on a balance beam. Balance is kind of a whacked out word in this day and age. I mean, honestly. Even when we finally find "balance" it's gone the next day because no days are ever the same. No matter how hard you try. A kid is gonna get sick, you're gonna get stuck at all the red lights, you'll oversleep, overeat, forget to workout, yada yada yada. There is no such thing as balance.

We don't need to equally distribute ourselves everywhere. How awful would it be if we gave every single aspect of our lives the exact same amount of effort or time. But as we stand on our beams of life juggling our have-tos and want-tos we've got to throw some things off the beam so we can cross it and not completely fall off of it!

Off the Beam!

Over the past two years I've become the queen of saying no. It's been a battle and I haven't quite...

A must read: For the Love

For The Love NEW 3d

I was recently given the great honor of being on the launch team for Jen Hatmaker's new book FOR THE LOVE: Fighting for Grace in a World of Impossible Standards. You guys. I love to read. I LOVE loving books and sharing them with you. But if I had to choose ONE book for you to read this year, it would be For the Love. Honestly. I'm not just saying that because I'm on the launch team. I really, truly, honestly believe that this book is for every woman out there.

In For the Love, Jen bridges the gap between every woman no matter their age, marital status, or race. With her brutal honesty and heartfelt grace she had me laughing one minute and crying the next. Through the entire book. She makes you feel like she's your best friend who would love you in your sweaty workout clothes or your fanciest dress. The one you could come crying to when your kids have gone AWOL and the one who will go with you to watch you get Botox injections you don't need. Because she loves you no matter what...

I may not be what you think I am

i may not be

Where on earth does the time go? I mean, didn't we just get out of school? And here we are again. Trying to squeeze every last drop out of the sunshine while struggling to wrap our brains around the thought of a schedule.

This summer has been one for the books. Between shipping thousands of planners, road trips, going to the beach, and staying up way too late, we've had a blast. But man, trying to be business owner slash the coolest mom in town is hard work. Who am I kidding? Just being a mom is hard work!

I constantly struggle with the guilt-trip I make up in my head. You're not good enough. You're destroying whatever is left of your poor children's childhood (or is it childhoods? I don't even know how to write words anymore). Who do you think you are? You don't know the first thing about running a business and you can't even keep your crap together! Read your own book, lady! Simplify!

But you know what? I don't have to be the cool mom and I certainly don't have to have my crap...

Meet Kyle: The Most Inspiring Person I Know

Meet my friend, Kyle Bryant
Kyle Bryant friedreichs ataxia

Friends, I have someone very inspiring that YOU need to meet! I can honestly say that I don't personally know a more inspiring person than my friend, Kyle Bryant. Kyle was one of my WyldLife kids when I was in high school. He was the life of the party and fit the "WyldLife" name perfectly.

When Kyle was 17, he was diagnosed with a neuromuscular disorder, Friedreich’s ataxia. Friedreich’s ataxia (FA) is a debilitating, life-shortening, degenerative neuro-muscular disorder. About one in 50,000 people in the United States have Friedreich's ataxia. Some symptoms of FA include loss of coordination (ataxia) in the arms and legs, energy deprivation and muscle loss, vision impairment, hearing loss, and slurred speech, and serious heart conditions. When the Enemy Tries to Stop You In Your Tracks

When the enemy tries to take you out

There are times in life when everything seems to fall into place and just flow. Things are good, everything is going your way, and you're walking the road you know you've been called to; when suddenly, wham! Out of nowhere you get blindsided and your heart sinks to your stomach. You can hardly come up for air before you're pulled back into the abyss of hopelessness.

You might as well give up because, honestly, what’s the point? Why should you keep trying when it hurts so badly? Why should you continue when it would be so much easier to just walk away and live a complacent life?

I tend to be overly dramatic when things don’t go as planned. I freak out. I stop eating. I stop sleeping. I completely lose hope. It usually doesn’t last long, thank God. But it sure feels like hell while I wallow in my “poor me, the world is against me party.”

Almost the entire month of March and half of April was an absolute bust for me. I was sick for three weeks....

On Doing Those Things You Hate To Do

Uncategorized Jan 16, 2015

rehearsing your troubles

There are some things that I just torture myself over. Stupid. I know. But you know how you have those things that you hate to do and put off until the last possible moment or until life just smacks you in the face with it and you have no choice but to face that monster? We all have them. Mine is so lame too. Confrontation. Customer service. Phone calls. Emails. YUCK.

I would be forever satisfied if I never had to return a phone call or email again and if I could pay someone else to deal with the customer service side of my job. I hate it. I LOATHE it. I think about it day and night. I put off checking my voice mail and my email in fear of someone being disappointed in me.

I know! So lame!

But today I had an epiphany of sorts. More like a you are so lame! Why do you do this to yourself? moment. I was reading Jesus Calling {my morning ritual} and it said this:

Rehearsing your troubles results in experiencing them many times, whereas you are meant to go through them only when they...
