On Chasing Dreams

These last several years have been a wild roller coaster for my family and me. I mean, crazy. Psycho. The twister, loop-de-loop, forward, then backwards, upside down, drop-off, make you wanna barf kind. From moving, to job changes, to publishing my first book...I can't even keep up with myself! My poor family, you guys. I need to start a separate savings account for therapy for my kids. Or maybe I've given them enough life lessons in their early years that they'll "get it right" when they are adults. Who knows.

Through all of the life lessons I've unabashedly thrown myself into, there's one I'm pretty darn proud of: chasing dreams.

When I look back over my life, I think I've always been a dream chaser. A little girl who believed that she could do anything, be anyone, or go anywhere. I always believed. In fact, if you know anything about me whatsoever, you know that I'm determined get what I want! And I don't mean that in a selfish way. I want that car, I'm getting it. No. I mean when I see something BIG in life, I go after it and I don't back down. Do I fail? Sometimes. Do I succeed? Sometimes. Do I give up? Never.

I believe that God places dreams in our hearts. Sometimes at a very young age. When I recall the things that excited me when I was a little girl, they one-hundred percent coincide with the things that excite me today. Writing, speaking, entrepreneurship, leading. Those all made appearances several times throughout my life and remain prevalent today.

I know that each one of you have a dream. It's there. I promise. Just dig a little deeper, friend. Dare to believe that maybe, just maybe, that little dream or wish or desire is there for a reason. That maybe God put it there and you're SUPPOSED TO DO SOMETHING WITH IT! I want you to experience what I've experienced. The exhilaration of Oh my gosh, I think this is really happening! That feeling of Thank you sweet Jesus for waking me up! It's there for the taking, people. All of it. For you.

Have COURAGE

Have courage to believe in yourself. Even when no one else does. There WILL be people who will say you're cuckoo. Who cares? No one did anything great sitting on their couch checking Facebook all day. You must have the courage to keep pressing on when everyone else says stop. I dare you to believe in yourself. I do!

Embrace Change

Be ready for your dream to morph into way more than you ever thought possible. I mean, seriously. Do you think I ever thought I would write a book on simplicity? No. Nope. Nada. Never crossed my mind. But in the midst of following my dream, God showed me some issues that needed to be addressed and I started writing about it. I realized that there were others who needed that particular part of my story so that they could learn to live their dreams. It certainly doesn't look the way I thought it would. But I'm still on the same journey. I'm still chasing my dreams.

Stay the Course

You're going to want to go your own way. DON'T. I learned the hard way. God's smarter. Just accept that fact and follow Him. He will lead you down a winding crazy path, but you know what? It's so much better! I had a little chat with God about this. He was kindly saying, Follow me. And I kept saying, No! I want to do THAT! I want to be THERE! After several rounds of the stubborn child stomping her foot on the ground, He finally made it clear. You WILL do that. But let me take you there. It's going to be a way cooler story. OUCH! Ok. I get it. You are so much better at stories than I am.

Just Keep Dreaming

Just keep dreaming. Just keep dreaming. Dreams don't ever die. There will always be something more. Something bigger and better. There will always be people that need you to live your dream. To live your story well and to share it with the world. {Tweet That} Please don't ever think that you are done. Until you breathe your very last breath, I pray that you dream.
